The Workplace Technology and Enablement team are responsible for all end-user devices, including mobile devices, laptops, desktops and virtual desktop operating systems. We also manage the supporting systems for these devices, such as SCCM, InTune and others, along with patching, packaging, vulnerability management and be-spoke solutions.
The WT&E team have an immediate need for an Engineer / Technical Project Coordinator to assist with upgrades of our Windows 10 AVD’s to Windows 11 on a 6-month day rate. We have several thousand AVD users, of which some of these require upgrading to Windows 11, using a combination of in-place upgrades and new-builds. We need the successful candidate to perform the necessary steps to upgrade the AVD’s, including but not limited to identifying machine AD group memberships and documenting as required, building of machines, liaising with users for upgrades, tracking the upgrade process and providing updates to their manager.
Responsibilities of the role
- Upgrade AVD instances from Windows 10 to Windows 11
- Plan, track progress and report progress to management
- Use creative methods to achieve results, which may include engaging vendors, scripting or other migration tools
- Engage with business stakeholders including Heads of Technology
- Engage with users on how best to migrate and meet their needs and expectations
- Engage with change management teams and assist with preparation of change requests
- Maintain an issues register and identify risks and issue that may affect the project
Skills required to be successful in the role:
- 2-3 years of experience working in a similar environment
- Ability to manage your work against a timeline in-order to meet a project end-date, track that progress, report on it and manage others where necessary in-order to achieve the objective
- Solid communication skills and excellent written skills to be able to prepare structured, coherent end-user emails and updates to management
- Experience deploying applications using SCCM or a similar deployment mechanism is preferred
- Experience using PowerShell scripts would be favourable
- Experience using AVD, VMware or similar virtual infrastructure is preferred but not essential
- A solid background in supporting desktop operating systems including Windows 10 is essential
- Ability to perform bare-metal machine builds using SCCM, InTune or similar
- Ability to facilitate meetings and present ideas / plans to facilitate problem solving
- A willingness to learn new products and skills and an enthusiastic attitude are essential
