Description & Requirements
Senior Performance Manager
Bupa is a leading health insurance provider in Australia. Our customers include over 4.7 million Australian residents as well as international visitors who come to Australia as a tourist, to work or study.
We're evolving our Performance & Growth function from a predominantly delivery and reporting-led model into a proactive commercial performance capability that helps the business identify opportunities, make better decisions and deliver measurable value. This role will play a critical part in shaping that transformation.
The Opportunity
This is a foundational role in building Bupa HI's future Performance & Growth capability. Reporting to the Head of Performance & Growth, the Senior Performance Manager is responsible for providing Bupa HI's independent commercial view of performance.
Rather than reporting what has already happened, you will identify the drivers, risks and opportunities that matter most, shape commercial priorities and influence where the business focuses its effort to drive growth, retention and value.
This is a rare opportunity to help build and mature the Performance discipline within a large, customer-focused organisation, with direct exposure to senior leaders and strategic decision-making.
An ideal candidate will:
- Own the commercial truth: Build and maintain Bupa HI's independent view of performance through structured diagnosis, driver attribution and commercial insight.
- Get ahead of the business: Identify emerging risks and opportunities before they become material issues, bringing proactive recommendations to leaders.
- Shape better decisions: Translate insights into prioritised, decision-ready recommendations, with clear trade-offs, risks and expected value outcomes.
- Think in systems: Understand how customer, channel, product, operational and commercial levers interact across the value chain.
- Drive value creation: Quantify growth, retention and commercial opportunities and help ensure effort is focused on the highest-value actions.
- Influence through credibility: Build trust through diagnostic depth, commercial judgement and evidence-based challenge.
- Help shape the performance system: Play a key role in designing and evolving Bupa HI's performance management approach, including performance reviews, governance forums, prioritisation frameworks and opportunity management processes.
What You’ll Bring
We're looking for an experienced commercial thinker who combines analytical rigour with strategic judgement and stakeholder influence.
To succeed in this role, you’ll ideally have:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, or a related field; postgraduate qualification (MBA or equivalent) advantageous.
- Significant experience (7+ years) in commercial strategy, business performance, consulting, analytics, finance or strategy roles.
- Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose business performance issues and opportunities and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to connect customer, operational and financial drivers.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and shaping business decisions through insight and analysis.
- Ability to assess opportunities, quantify trade-offs and prioritise interventions based on commercial, customer and strategic impact.
- Exceptional problem-solving, communication and storytelling skills.
Highly Desirable
- Experience in management consulting, strategy consulting or corporate strategy environments.
- Experience designing performance management systems, governance forums, prioritisation frameworks or operating rhythms.
- Experience working in regulated industries, financial services, insurance, health insurance or other complex customer businesses.
- Understanding of health insurance economics, growth channels and customer retention strategies.
