The ADF Health Services team are responsible for providing integrated and seamless end-to-end health support to 85,000 ADF personnel across 50+ facilities. This includes integrated workforce providing health services such as primary and occupational healthcare, dental, physiotherapy, mental health and psychology services, pharmacy, occupational rehabilitation and health administration. As well pathology, imaging and radiology, vocational rehabilitation, mental health, hospital, specialist, allied health, patient transport and other off base services enabled by Bupa systems.
What’s your role?
As the General Manager, Clinical Governance, you will be responsible for overseeing the clinical governance framework and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and effective clinical care within the ADF Health Services business. This role involves developing, implementing, and managing systems that promote clinical best practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in clinical services. The General Manager will work closely with clinical and non-clinical leaders to foster a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence.
You will also be responsible for leading a team of Medical Professionals and other specialists, to deliver key functions under the ADF Health Services Contract such as Clinical Complaint and Incident Management (CCIM), Clinical Credentialing, Clinical Insights and Clinician Engagement.
What will your day involve?
In this senior leadership role, you will:
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the clinical governance framework.
- Provide expert leadership for clinical risk management, quality assurance, and patient safety to ensure optimal care delivery.
- Foster an environment that supports a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement in clinical practice.
- Oversee the establishment and implementation of policies, procedures, and processes that underpin assurance of clinical service quality.
- Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical leaders to implement evidence-based best practices and drive a culture of continuous clinical improvement.
- Ensure compliance with relevant healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices, including accreditation and legal requirements.
- Identify potential clinical risks, analyse trends, and develop proactive strategies to mitigate risks to patient safety.
- Oversight investigations and root cause analyses for clinical incidents, providing recommendations for system-wide improvements where identified.
- Coordinate the analysis of empirical evidence and data from operational and clinical encounters and other health-related events to generate clinical insights and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead service optimisation initiatives which convert quality improvement opportunities into operational implementation.
- Establish and maintain beneficial relationships with key stakeholders, including clinical and administrative personnel in Bupa, Department of Defence, state and territory health departments and third-party service providers.
- Engaging with clinicians, establishing communities of practice and other peer fora, and evolving service models and position descriptions to contribute to the broader Bupa clinician value proposition that supports clinician development and retention and helps advance service quality and sustainability of the healthcare system.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experienced managing cross-functional stakeholders, working across organisational structures.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Excellent judgement and the ability to work at a strategic level while being mindful of implementation and operational factors at a local level.
- Able to work autonomously and take accountability for deliverables and outcomes.
